Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to deliver new content through Google

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and Google Arts & Culture have announced they will pair up to produce online content.

Google Arts & Culture will host interviews, performances and other RPO content on its website. This includes a 360-degree VR performance of Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.

Further, Google Arts & Culture will make use of content from RPO Resound, the orchestra’s education and outreach project.

Commented RPO managing director James Williams: “The RPO’s new partnership with Google Arts & Culture is an important step forward in its mission to democratise orchestral music and to increase its accessibility using the latest digital technologies and online platforms.

“[N]owadays more and more people are engaging with orchestral music through online platforms and portable devices. For many, this represents the start of a journey of discovery; an opportunity to deepen people’s knowledge and engagement with orchestral music.”

He added RPO would add “exclusive content with its newly announced music director, Vasily Petrenko” in the near future.
