Romania’s Culture Minister resigns following opera fall out

Bucharest National Opera

Romanian Culture Minister Vlad Alexandrescu has resigned, following trouble at Bucharest National Opera, which has seen four interim general managers pass through its doors, and a split of loyalties at the house.

According to reports, the resignation came following drama last week involving Danish choreographer and artistic director Johan Kobborg, who was banned from entering the house unless accompanied by security, along with his fiancée and star dancer Alina Cojocaru and seven others.

Said government spokesman Dan Suciu ‘A new management team will be appointed at the Opera to defuse the situation there. The Prime Minister’s Control Body will be there starting from next week to investigate what was going on there.’
