Pass the baton: conductors on the move

  • Edwin Outwater has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Curator of the BBC Concert Orchestra from September 2024. He will collaborate with Chief Conductor Anna-Maria Helsing and Director Matthew Swann to deliver a diverse range of concerts, community, and education work. Outwater has previously conducted the orchestra at notable events, including the BBC Proms and the Northern Soul Prom. His upcoming projects include performances at the BBC Proms and the London Jazz Festival.
  • Renowned violinist Daniel Hope has been unanimously appointed as the new Intendant & Artistic Director of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy, starting in autumn 2025. Hope, who has a long-standing association with both Gstaad and Yehudi Menuhin, will succeed Christoph Müller after his 24-year tenure. With an international career spanning over 35 years and experience directing various music festivals, Hope brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Hope’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the festival, as it prepares to celebrate its 70th edition in 2026. 
  • Nil Venditti has been named as the Royal Northern Sinfonia’s Principal Guest Conductor, following her recent return to the orchestra in May. She will take up her role from the beginning of the 2024-25 season, with concerts in January and May 2025. 
  • The Staatstheater Kassel has appointed Latvian-born conductor Ainārs Rubiķis as its General Music Director for an initial three-season term, commencing in September 2025. Rubiķis, who made his debut there in 2021, will conduct a minimum of two productions and four symphonic concerts per season.
