Orchester de la Suisse Romande (OSR) has announced a new format that allows it to continue performing during lockdown: one-on-one concerts.
Each concert sees one OSR musician performing for one person. The audience member doesn’t know in advance which musician they’ll receive a 10-minute performance from, or what the piece will be.
“A one-on-one concert consists of a 10-minute non-verbal meeting between a musician and a spectator…giving impetus for a very personal and intense concert, allowing proximity despite the distance,” said OSR in a statement. “The spectators of the concert do not know who will be playing and whether they will listen to a trombone, double bass or flute.”

The concerts themselves take place in various venues across Geneva, including an old factory and an art gallery. The programme runs from 1-8 July, with some concerts already sold out.
OSR added that the concept was, “inspired by the famous performance by Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present.”
In addition to the ticket price, OSR will ask for donations to the Swiss Union of Musical Artists (USDAM) in support of musicians distressed due to the coronavirus crisis.
