National Centre for Early Music Young Composers Award

The National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) has announced its Young Composers Award 2018 will partner with early music group The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble.

The six-member ensemble will perform works by shortlisted composers on 30 October 2018 at Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton. The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show. Shortlisted composers will also get to attend a workshop led by composer Christopher Fox.

“Young composers see their work rehearsed and performed by professional musicians and, through the partnership with the BBC and composer Christopher Fox, this is an integral part of nurturing composers of the future,” said NCEM director Delma Tomlin.

Alan Davey, controller of BBC Radio 3 added: “Talent development is at the heart of BBC Radio 3 and we are proud to continue our commitment to supporting the next generation of composers inspired by early music.”

The Young Composer’s Award is split into two categories: Under 19s and 19-25 year-olds. It is open to anyone who lives in the UK. Interested applicants need to register their interest by midnight on 16 February, and then submit their completed scores by 16 March.
