Last call for competitions to apply to be a member of WFIMC in 2017

Applications to be recognised as a member of The World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) will close on 11 February 2017. Competitions across genres from jazz to classical, encompassing instrumental and vocal performance and composition are invited to submit their interest.

Operating out of its headquarters in Geneva, WFIMC is a network and advocacy organisation representing 120 of the world’s leading music contests. Established in 1957, it is backed up by its membership of the International Music Council (UNESCO).

Said Didier Schnorhk, WFIMC president and secretary general of the prestigious Geneva International Music Competition: ‘Directing a music competition can be a solitary experience, but thanks to the WFIMC you no longer need to feel isolated. WFIMC is a collective of peers, and the organisation sets precedents of excellence: advancing competition regulations, setting professional codes of conduct, building new audiences and proliferating the achievements of competitions and their laureates.’

WFIMC advocates for a ‘gold standard’ approach to competition values, promoting artistic and operational excellence, and the enhancement of opportunities for artists via connections with key cultural, government, and educational influencers. Members include Michael Hill International Violin Competition (New Zealand), Banff International String Quartet Competition (Canada) and Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors (France).

Added WFIMC’s former general secretary, Glen Kwok, who is also executive director, International Violin Competition of Indianapolis: ‘Perhaps the most invaluable benefit of WFIMC membership is the sharing of expertise among the most experienced competition administrators and artistic directors from around the world in every discipline.’
