Lars Petter Hagen – Six in Sixty

Early bird or night owl?

I used to like staying up very late, but in later years I have developed into more of a morning person. Does that mean I’m getting older?

One routine you swear by?

Meditation. I meditate 20 minutes a day whenever I can manage.

Can’t travel without…?

My phone. Boring, but all too true.

Who or what has influenced you most in your career?

I could list many of the old and more contemporary masters in composition, but without being able to attend a public music school in my youth, I would not have been where I am today. Having access to learning a musical instrument was my starting point and laid the groundwork for my passions and my career.

Favourite city and why?

I have to say Bergen – the beautiful home of the Bergen International Festival, Edvard Grieg and the fjords, Norway’s vibrant second city and cultural capital and my new hometown.

Guilty pleasure/indulgence?

Food. I love reading about it, preparing it, eating it. Also, sometimes there is nothing better than that age-old combination of cheese doodles and pinot noir.

Lars Petter Hagen is Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the Bergen International Festival in Norway.
