Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival reveals 2015 theme

Vladimir Mendelssohn, the artistic director of Finland’s Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, has revealed the theme for next year’s edition will be ‘Time’.

The announcement follows another successful instalment of the festival, which drew to a close on Saturday.

Around 35,000 people attended a total of 73 concerts during the two-week event, 10 of which were sold out.

Over 200 artists took part in this year’s festival under the theme ‘Seven Cities, Seven Arts’, including the St Petersburg Chamber Choir, string quartet Meta4 and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra.

‘My colleagues worked 150 per cent flat out,’ said Mendelssohn. ‘And I take it the audience liked what they heard. At least that’s the impression I got when I looked around at concerts.’

The festival was founded in 1970 by cellist Seppo Kimanen.

Next year’s edition will run from 12-25 July.
