John Williams and Anne-Sophie Mutter team up for new album

The five-time Oscar winning film composer and conductor, John Williams, has teamed up with violinist friend and collaborator Anne-Sophie Mutter for a new album. Across The Stars will be released on 30 August on Deutsche Grammophon.

Across The Stars features new adaptions written especially for Mutter, including the theme tunes from major blockbusters such as Harry Potter, Star Wars and Memoirs of a Geisha, backed by the 70-piece Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles.

Williams said: “Working with Anne-Sophie on this recording has been a pure inspiration. She has brought vibrant life to these familiar themes in new and unexpected ways, which has been a great joy for me as a composer.”

Famous track to make the edit from Williams’ vast repertoire are Star Wars motifs such as Yoda’s Theme from The Empire Strikes Back, Luke and Leia from Return of the Jedi and the title track, Across the Stars from Attack of the Clones, and the haunting violin melody from his Oscar-winning score for Schindler’s List.

“There is only one John Williams,” said Grammy-winner Mutter. “What he writes is just extraordinary. Every time I go to one of his films and there is a violin or cello, I think, I would like to play that! And now I have his wonderful translations of all these iconic themes.”
