Job Summary

The Production Department is responsible for creating, delivering and running world-class theatre at Kiln Theatre, working in collaboration with a wide and varied range of directors, creative teams and co-producing partners.

Job Description

The Company Stage Manager (the CSM) will work closely with the Head of Production and Producer to play a central part in the day-to-day running of the Productions, providing effective communication between teams and maintaining the delivery of high-quality productions. The CSM will ensure the most effective use of resources; develop and maintain processes for clear communication; and recruit and manage freelance staffing in order to support the realisation of productions at Kiln (and other venues if required). In collaboration with Kiln Production and Producing teams the CSM will ensure the pastoral welfare of Kiln companies and production teams and a welcome and inclusive working culture.

Job Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional stage management experience and the ability to act as company stage manager for productions at Kiln
  • Experience of working with and managing freelance production staff and stage managers
  • Working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and its application in a theatrical setting
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships quickly
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent time management
  • An interest in supporting work in a Community and Young Persons setting
  • A calm and positive approach with ability to work both rigorously and flexibly under pressure, with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a small, dedicated Production team with enthusiasm and an interest in theatre
  • Understanding and support of Kiln’s mission
