Jerwood Arts funds 50 arts fellowships

The Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries (WJCB) programme has announced it will fund 50 positions at arts organisations in the UK for 2020-2022.

The year-long fellowships embed early-career artists and arts leaders inside institutions. In particular, they are aimed at individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Roles supported include studio programme curator at Studio Wayne McGregor; directing fellow at Welsh National Opera; assistant producer at the Royal Shakespeare Company; and digital content fellow at the Royal Exchange Theatre.

Each fellow will have 90% of their salary paid by WJCB. They will also benefit from, “a dedicated career development programme, support for their progression beyond the programme, and individual mentors supported in partnership with Arts Emergency.”

“We hope these bursaries make a real difference and it is heartening to see socio-economic diversity and inclusion remain such important drivers for our partners during these challenging times,” said Jerwood Arts director Lilli Geissendorfer.

“This programme will help discover and nurture the potential of talented individuals as well as contribute to changing organisational practices for good. All this will assist the arts and cultural sector in coming out of this pandemic healthier, stronger, more balanced and inclusive.”

WJCB has run four times over the last 10 years, and now has 125 alumni. A full list of funded positions can be found on the Jerwood Arts website.
