Hong Kong Ballet plans online festival

Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is turning its first ballet festival into an online event. The change was made after Hong Kong extended social distancing measures.

turn(it)out festival is free, and Freespace at the West Kowloon Cultural District (West Kowloon) will act as co-presenter. The festival runs from 18 March – 4 April.

The centrepiece of the programme is five(by)six, a programme of five contemporary ballets by six international dance-makers including HKB’s artistic director Septime Webre, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, duo Justyne Li and Wong Tan-ki, Stephen Shropshire and Nguyen Ngoc Anh.

Other festival highlights are a performance of Cinderella for kids; ballet barre classes; masterclasses wth HKB artists and dancers; and screenings of archival HKB performances.

Finally, Webre will lead a panel session titled Creating Work in a Pandemic: A Conversation with Ochoa and Shropshire.

The full programme can be found online via the HKB website.
