Help Musicians UK (HMUK) has put out a call for its 2019 Postgraduate Awards. The awards fund students for in their studies at UK conservatoires.
Previously, musicians had to be nominated for an HMUK award. Now, though, the charity has decided to open up the application process.
“We are very excited to open the application process up to allow every eligible applicant the opportunity to directly apply,” said programme director Claire Gevaux. “We feel that this change is a necessary first step towards creating a more diverse talent pool and look forward to receiving applications from students who might not normally be nominated for these awards.”
After vetting the applications, HMUK will then hold auditions in April and June. A panel of industry experts will judge these.
In 2018, HMUK awarded grants to 125 students, with an average award of GBP2,420. For 2019, it hopes to offer around GBP300,000 in grants.
Notable musicians to benefit from HMUK Postgraduate Awards include Evelyn Glennie, Alisoln Balsom, Tasmin Little and Miloš Karadaglic.
