Creative Scotland award funding boost

Over GBP700,000 (€819,000) will be distributed to arts and cultural organisations across Scotland, it was announced yesterday.

Though the Small Capital Funding Awards set up by Creative Scotland, 22 venues and organisations will receive an investment boost.

It’s hoped that the increased funding will improve access to and participation in arts and culture across the country.

In the Highlands, the Eden Court theatre has been awarded GBP65,000 (€76,021) to redevelop its orchestra pit; and Fèis Rois, a tuition programme for young children, has been awarded just over GBP10,000 (€11,694) for new equipment and recording facilities.

Over GBP31,000 (€36,253) of investment into the Kirkcaldy Old Kirk in Fife will see the creation of a new arts and heritage centre and community music hub.

Glasgow’s Tron Theatre will receive over GBP47,000 (€54,972) to update their facilities, whilst Drake Music Scotland in Edinburgh will receive GBP25,000 (€29,240) to expand its provision of music tuition for people with disabilities across Scotland.

Leonie Bell, acting director of creative development at Creative Scotland, said: ‘The improvement of buildings and the purchasing of equipment that these awards will support will enhance the diverse and valued range of work being carried out by these organisations from across Scotland, from Orkney to Glasgow and will help ensure audiences, participants, artists and creative practitioners have access to the best possible facilities.’
