Beth Morrison Projects names Next Generation winner

Emma O’Halloran has won the Next Generation competition run by Beth Morrison Projects. O’Halloran has been commissioned to write a full length opera that will be premiered and toured over the coming seasons.

O’Halloran’s work is cross genre, and aims to capture, “complex and powerful emotions”. To date, she has composed for chamber ensembles, laptop orchestra, symphony orchestra, folk musicians and turntables alongside music for film and theatre.

A founder of the #HearAllComposers campaign – which brings attention to social issues regarding race, gender and socio-economic discrimination – O’Halloran has been described as, “an advocate for inclusivity in classical music”.

Beth Morrison Projects (BMP) is responsible for New York’s Prototype Festival and productions including Place, Prism and Train with No Midnight. After beginning in New York it expanded to include Los Angeles in 2014. Recent production Madame White Snake was staged at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the company will also stage Home at the festival from 14-16 March.
