Alistair Mackie will join Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) as chief executive from 1 April 2019.
Mackie is probably best known as a trumpet player, having served as joint principal trumpet for Philharmonia Orchestra in recent years. He also served as the orchestra’s interim managing director during the 2016-17 season.
Other career highlights are stints as principal trumpet for Glyndebourne Touring Opera and London Sinfonietta, as well as a teaching post as trumpet professor at Royal College of Music (held since 2007).
Commented Mackie: “The first orchestral concert I ever attended was a performance of The Planets at the Kelvin Hall with the Scottish National Orchestra and throughout my teenage years I was repeatedly inspired by the unique energy and musicality of this amazing ensemble. It’s no small part of why I chose to pursue a career as a professional musician.
