Alexander Liebreich has been named as the new chief conductor and artistic director of Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (PRSO). A German native, he succeeds Slovak conductor Ondrej Lenard.
Liebreich is currently chief conductor and artistic director at Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, a role he will hold until 2019. He is also artistic director at the Richard Strauss Festival.
“I consider Alexandra Liebreich to be a great conductor who knows exactly what sound and expression he wants to achieve with the orchestra when performing the compositions,” commented PRSO director Jakub Čížek.
Liebreich recently led the orchestra in a concert with cellist Alban Gerhardt on 29 October, a performance that was extremely well received by the audience. He will take up his new role in September 2018.
PRSO has also announced that Czech conductor Marek Sedivy will be its next principal guest conductor, succeeding Tomas Brauner.
